the viking of santa monica

“The Viking of Santa Monica” was birthed from a one-in-a-lifetime experience by Darren Cohn, an aspiring film-maker. Arriving in California after a week’s long cross-country journey from South Florida, Darren and his two cohorts found themselves with no plans on New Year’s Eve. Walking into the first bar they saw that wasn’t packed to the brim, they solemnly sat at the dive bar and sipped their flat beers. Suddenly, the air shifted, Darren turned to the front door, a bellowing silhouette overtook the threshold. As if in a trance, Darren watched as a man dressed as a viking approached the bar and handed the bartender his drinking horn. The bartender filled it up with beer from the tap and the viking raised his horn and winked to Darren. No words were exchanged. The viking left as mysteriously as he appeared. Was this a a dream? Perhaps a liquor-induced hallucination? Darren may not know, but he will never forget the Viking of Santa Monica.
